Businessman and investor Mark Cuban, who owns the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and is one of the main investors in ABC’s Shark Tank, worked at a company called Tronics 2000 right out of college. While there, a man named Larry Menaw gave him some of the best advice he’s ever received. Menaw noticed that Cuban was hyper and always on the go. One day before one of their meetings started, Menaw gave Cuban some specific instructions: “Mark, I want you to do one thing for me. Whenever we sit down for a meeting, I want you to take out your pad of paper and pen and in the upper right-hand corner, write down the word listen.” To this day, Cuban follows that advice. He writes down the word listen before every meeting to remind himself to be quiet and hear what the other people in the room have to say.
