Leadership VS Pushership
Definition of Leadership…The ability of a person to guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations.

Definition of Leadership…The ability of a person to guide other individuals, teams, or entire organizations.
Some leaders show up and shine. We all hunt for them but they are not easy to find or attract if you are not a leader too.
So how does one become a leader and then find or cultivate other leaders?
First…know and trust this:
The ability and skill to be a leader are not hard to acquire or cultivate in others.
But that will only happen if certain crucial elements are there. If they are not there, leaders/management find themselves pushing or dragging people and that always brings about resistance and frustration because no one likes to be pushed or dragged. People willingly follow and, in fact, actually enjoy being led if they trust the leader and if they want to go where the leader is offering to take them.
My definition of leadership is comprised of four things.
1) A leader is someone who is in front of others….someone who is ahead of the pack….leading others to a place he or she wants them to go.
2) A leader knows what they are doing and knows the way to get to the end result.
3) They are someone who will do what they are asked or expected to do when the person who asked them is not there.
4) They are confident because they know the way and can get others there as well.
Many think that getting those they lead/supervise to do the following things is what it takes to be a good leader:
>Be authoritative;
>Be knowledgeable;
>Read/study recommended personal development or management skills books;
>Don’t be soft or a pushover;
>Do highly focused, intense weekly/monthly/annual goal setting;
>Put in whatever time it takes no matter what the personal expense is;
>Don’t get personally involved with those they lead;
>Attend management classes;
>Push hard to meet goals/deadlines;
>Good at time management
There are many other “techniques” taught by gurus and trainers that they say are the key to good leadership and getting people to take action. Most do not work very well. Some are an outright waste of time and effort.
Here is one example from a few years ago regarding the super popular, best-selling book, titled 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey…God rest his soul:
A major magazine featured an article titled Ten Years…Seven Habits – Just How “Highly Effective” have Stephen Covey’s Habits Remained? In that article, they say “Although most of us have probably absorbed the principals behind the habits as part of our basic education, we don’t apply them to our lives.” “What’s common sense is not common practice,” said Covey.
“I don’t like being in sales because I am not the pushy type.” Or…. “I’m not the pushy type and that’s why I don’t do well in sales or any kind.”
I have heard these kinds of things said so many times that I feel it necessary to speak the truth about it so it is no longer a wrong paradigm keeping you or your downline from creating the income they desire.
First of all -- NOBODY likes to be pushed. Not even two-year-old kids. They sometimes resist with all their might and you have to drag them. We all resist being pushed in anything and it starts with the very young in all of us. Walk up to anybody and ask them, “How do you feel when I do this?”….then shove them rather robustly on the shoulder. Watch their face. At a minimum, their face reflects that they not only disliked it they were ready to push back. At a maximum, they will, in no uncertain terms, tell you they didn’t like it and ask you or even warn you not to do it again.
There is a reason that leadership is so important…in all areas of life. We all hate to be pushed.
It's something we have had with us since the day we were born. It’s called FREE AGENCY. When that agency is taken from us by anybody we don’t like it. We resist it. We rebel against it. and….often don’t like the person pushing or foisting their will on us. We want things OUR way, not the way someone else wants them. Or worse yet demands it.
That, unfortunately, is why bosses are often thought of as, to put it nicely, not easy to get along with. Bosses like that are also one of the reasons network marketing will always be around. Perhaps you have heard the saying, “Boss spelled backward is double sob.”
Being a good leader eliminates pushership completely.
You walk the talk, do what you are telling them to do and you become a master at encouraging others. It’s like saying to a group of people, “I know where there is a lot of candy. Who wants candy? I can get you all the candy you want! It Follows me”. And those who want candy will follow you.
Some will go and tell others where that unlimited supply of candy is. They are your business builders.
Network Marketing offers a solution to the dragon that controls the happiness of 40 to 60 hours of your week.
The image of a used car salesman has not been too kind to them primarily because of their pushiness. “I don’t want to be like a used car salesman” is frequently stated.
Stating that “I don’t like selling” is usually a direct result of two things:
>Deep revulsion of the image of being a pushy person and not being willing to be the kind of person that others not only resist but dislike because you are someone who is aggressive or downright pushy.
>Deep dislike of hearing the word NO. Hating rejection.
Both have the same deep-seated reason for not being willing to be in sales. After all, it's in sales where it is wrongly perceived that you have to be pushy and can be rejected a lot. Both of which result in your not being liked…and we ALL want to be liked, appreciated, wanted, -- by everyone. Selling, as many perceive it, puts that at risk.
No wonder we recoil from being pushy or “aggressive”. If you are that kind of person you will be doing that which will cause you to possibly or probably feel “not liked”.
Is there a solution? You bet there is! Knowing this can help you reap the benefits of a cash-flowing network marketing business!
“WHAT IS IT?”
OKAY…Here it is. Identify a prospect’s Core Desire(s) then show them how your company, its products, and the concept of network marketing can give it to them. Then promise to help them get what they already want…their Core Desire.
Can it be that simple? Absolutely! Find out what someone wants, in any area of life, offer to help them get and they love and appreciate you and want you around. That’s why I love what I do because that’s ALL I do. I just help people get what they want out of life and I get paid very handsomely for doing it.
When I was building a very successful downline I did the same thing I just advised you to do. I led people. I didn't sell or push them and many people willingly followed me -- and my advice…and no one ever called me pushy. Even those who said no to the products or business. I do the same in my weekend retreats. I push no one… and I am followed.
The same will happen to you. Be a leader, helping people get where they already want to go – to their Core Desires -- and you will never be or appear pushy. Leadership, not Pushership is definitely a win-win interaction with others.
