My Lunch With Zig Ziglar

Happy Holidays to everyone and best of luck and prosperity for an outrageously successful 2013! George Madiou, thank you for all that you do to unify our profession, to uplift, inspire and instruct us so we can achieve our dreams. I couldn't let the month pass without sending a special tribute to Zig Ziglar, one of the greatest among us. He

has inspired so many people.

It's rare that you will hear any personal development speaker share their information without quoting Zig at least once or twice.

Probably one of his most famous statements is that, “You can have what you want in life, as long as you help enough others get what they want.”

How perfectly applicable is that to our beautiful business of network marketing and the opportunity each one of us hold in our hand in our individual companies to really make a difference in a dramatic and fundamental way in people's lives. And just like the beautiful boomerang of success, it comes back our way in greater abundance than we would ever have dreamt possible.

I have a special story to share about Zig and the way, literally, that he shaped my life profoundly by just one interaction I had with him when I was a young girl.

Back several years ago when I was just 14 years old, I attended a PMA, a Positive Mental Attitude rally in Salt Lake City, where Zig and several other personal development trainers at the time were speaking. I was enraptured in the feeling, just that exalted sense that I had inside like waking up to possibilities and getting a glimpse of vision and what I wanted for myself and others. All of those wonderful, expansive feelings. As I was taking page upon page of notes, listening to Zig, I just looked at him and I thought, 'that's what I want to do. I want to inspire people to reach for the best that is in them.'

Isn't it just beautifully synchronistic that I would find a business that has enabled me to help people reach for the best that is within them and at the same time create financial freedom for themselves, their family and loved ones.

I want to share with you an incredible and inspiring full circle moment coming from decisions made when I was 14. A year and a half ago I was in Dallas and Tom, Zig's son, had me and Zig and Mrs. Ziglar meet for lunch. I had a wonderful exchange with him as we shared conversation and a delightful meal. I was inspired and kind of in awe that I was sitting across the table from Zig Ziglar, one of my mentors. Even at that point he was quite feeble, and as we walked out the door he grabbed my arm and I was holding him, ever so slightly supporting him as we walked to the car. No one else was around us at the time but he said to me,

“Margie, there are so many people that are born, they live and they die, without ever hearing the words from anyone, 'You can do it!' and Margie, what the world needs right now is hope. People have lost hope. They've lost that spark that lets them know they can have something bigger and better in their future. Margie, please be the one who shares this, who helps re-instill hope in people so they grab that light in their lives.”

I, of course, just nodded. I had tears streaming down my face as I listened to his beautiful words and gave him a big hug. He drove off with his wife and Tom Ziglar and I returned to Ziglar Studios and the corporate offices, and in the next hour I recorded a webcast that was delivered to Zig Ziglar's community. As I recorded that information, I thought to myself, 'What an incredible full circle moment. Here I am, inspiring,

maybe, his community, when years ago I listened to him speak and I said, “One day I will do that.”

So I acknowledge this beautiful man. One of the greatest inspirational beings of all time and I wish to each of you that hope that he encouraged me to share and remind you it is alive and well today.

Let me share his words, from my heart, whatever it is you want, whatever it is you cherish as your deepest passion, you can do it.
